Description: In patients with debilitating degenerative joint disease of the hip for whom conventional approaches (analgesics, assistive devices, weight loss) are no longer effective, a total hip replacement procedure (arthroplasty) is indicated to relieve pain and restore patient function. Total hip arthroplasty (THA) involves removal of the femoral bone head and neck, revision of the diseased acetabulum, and implantation of a prosthesis with a stemmed femoral component and press-fit acetabular cup.
