Over the past several years, healthcare costs in America have risen sharply. The good news is that recent trends indicate that these increases are slowing. Even so, national healthcare expenditures topped $2.2 trillion in 2006.  This amounts to 16% of GDP, a proportion that threatens the health of our overall economy. Clearly, healthcare costs remain a national priority.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies are committed to improving healthcare quality, availability and affordability. We are pleased to publish the 2007 Medical Cost Reference Guide (MCRG) as part of our commitment to creating a better healthcare future by engaging and empowering consumers with timely and accurate information. Now in its fifth annual publication, the MCRG provides information on healthcare costs and emerging trends from nationally recognized research and other fact-based data sources.
