Who we are
Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association is a leading supplier of business strategy, technical support, health care services and consulting expertise for our key business partners - the independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans.
What we do
We act as a Brand manager by setting quality control standards for the companies that use the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Brands and we serve as a trade association that represents the Blue Plans. We also are responsible for providing the Blue Plans with national leadership among industry colleagues, government officials, media and the public. When the individual Blue Plans' priorities, business objectives and corporate culture conflict, it is our job to help them develop a united vision and strategy. The role of the Association is also to assist in linking the Plans with programs that permit each to benefit from the local strength of all Member Plans.

Both of our offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C., are conveniently located close to downtown public transportation, shopping, restaurants and entertainment.
Recent Initiatives
Some of the exciting projects that are currently active include:
- Better Knowledge Campaign . BCBSA has engaged in a multiyear, multifaceted campaign to educate key audiences on issues related to healthcare costs, affordability, and the uninsured. Known as the Better Knowledge Campaign, it includes resources for use by Blue Plans in local markets, BCBSA-initiated efforts such as a paid media campaign and strategic research, and promotional programs.
- WalkingWorks is a program designed to help people live healthier lives. It is designed to fit a wide range of lifestyles and health conditions, and helps consumers reach their own goals. WalkingWorks encourages consumers to find every opportunity to walk more every day, and provides the tools they need to track their progress.
- Blue Health Intelligence (BHI) is a strategic initiative of Blue Plans, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and Consortium Health Plans (CHP) to explore the opportunity to offer a comprehensive normative data warehouse that will lead the market in value-maximized health intelligence derived from the data. BHI will aggregate medical and drug claims, membership, and other critical provider information from participating Plans into a centralized data warehouse.
