CHICAGO – The Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies today will be inducted into the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s (NMSS) “Circle of Distinction” for raising more than $1 million over the last 10 years.
BCBS health insurance companies have collectively raised funds through direct sponsorships and employee donations, as well as through employees who participated in cycling and walking events organized by local society chapters.
“We are grateful that Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies have been leaders in their communities in advancing multiple sclerosis (MS) awareness and research,” said Cyndi Zagieboylo, president and CEO of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. “Their commitment to healthcare and their recognition of our cause brings hope to so many people with MS.”
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska (BCBSNE) representatives today will attend the society’s National Conference in Denver to accept the recognition. BCBSNE has worked closely with the local NMSS Mid America Chapter over the last decade and led Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies in donations to the organization.
“We are proud of our long standing relationship with our local MS Society chapter,” said Steve Martin, president and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska. “The MS Society does an extraordinary job across Nebraska of raising awareness of multiple sclerosis and serving as the driving force behind MS research and treatment.”
“Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies understand the toll this disease can take on families because of the impact it has had on many of their members,” said Scott Serota, president and CEO of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. “As leaders in healthcare, Blue companies are committed to supporting their members by funding cutting-edge research, facilitating professional education and providing programs and services that help people with MS and their families.”
