BCBSA Names Trent Haywood As New Chief Medical Officer

CHICAGO – The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) today announced that Dr. Trent Haywood, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and value-based payments, will be the new Chief Medical Officer when Allan Korn, MD, retires at year end.
Dr. Haywood has a wealth of medical executive experience in both the public and private sectors. He has led initiatives to align physician payment systems with improved clinical quality and disease management, and has been instrumental in driving clinical innovation.

Dr. Haywood previously worked at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), where he led agency priorities including quality public reporting and value-based payments. Following his tenure at CMS, Dr. Haywood served as the senior vice president and chief medical officer for VHA Inc. in Texas.
Dr. Haywood holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and a medical degree from the University of Illinois in Chicago. He completed his internal medicine residency at Loyola University. Dr. Haywood also holds a law degree from Northwestern University School of Law.
