BCBSA Statement on Bipartisan Sustainable Growth Rate Replacement Proposal
October 31, 2013
WASHINGTON – The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) issued the following statement today regarding the release of a bicameral, bipartisan draft framework to replace the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula:
“We applaud Democratic and Republican leaders of the Senate Finance and House Ways and Means Committees for working together to develop a bipartisan framework for fixing Medicare’s flawed Sustainable Growth Rate formula.
“The Blue Cross and Blue Shield System has long advocated for Medicare to move away from the fee-for-service payment system, which rewards providers for each service they deliver, regardless of quality.
“We’re pleased the draft framework promotes innovative payment models that have shown great success in the private sector by rewarding providers for delivering high quality care and better outcomes for patients.
“We look forward to working closely with Congress on sensible Medicare payment reforms to shape a higher quality healthcare system.”
