Blue Cross And Blue Shield Association To Match $25,000 In Donations To Federal Employee Assistance Fund

WASHINGTON – The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) today announced that it will match up to $25,000 in individual donations made to the Federal Employee Education & Assistance Fund (FEEA) to help celebrate the fund's 25th anniversary assisting federal employees and their families. The fundraiser aims to raise $100,000 during the month of June.
"The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association has a long history of supporting federal employees and their families through the Federal Employee Education & Assistance Fund," said Jena L. Estes, vice president of the BCBSA Federal Employee Program. "Our commitment to supporting the health and wellness of federal employees and their families includes helping them in times of need through critical programs such as FEEA."
Each year, BCBSA donates $100,000 to fund merit scholarships for federal employees and their families. More than 8,000 students have been able to receive college educations due in part to more than $10.2 million in scholarships that BCBSA's contributions have helped fund over the past 25 years.
BCBSA also has contributed more than $7.7 million in emergency financial assistance provided by FEEA, including $30,000 toward the FEEA Disaster Relief Fund to assist federal families recently affected by tornadoes that devastated several states.
With BCBSA's support, FEEA has helped federal employees with grants after major disasters including Hurricane Andrew, the Oklahoma City federal building bombing, the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and Hurricane Katrina.
In addition to FEEA, BCBSA's long-standing commitment to the federal community includes support to many government associations through sponsorships. Government organizations that BCBSA supports include Blacks in Government, Federally Employed Women, Senior Executive Association, Federal Asian Pacific American Council, Society of American Indian Government Employees, National IMAGE, and the African American Postal League United for Success.
