Blue Cross And Blue Shield Association Named As One Of America's Top Organizations For Multicultural Business Opportunities
March 14, 2011
CHICAGO – The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) was recently named as one of the “Top 50 Organizations for Multicultural Business Opportunities” by DiversityBusiness.com. Called the DIV50, the list recognizes the top 50 companies that differentiate themselves in the marketplace by providing the best opportunities and the most business for diversity-owned companies. BCBSA ranks 16th on the 2011 list and is joined by some of the largest and best known companies.
“We are proud of the recognition from DiversityBusiness.com and our selection to the DIV50 list which represents the relationships and accomplishments of BCBSA and its 39 independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies,” said Kevin D. Shanklin, executive director, office of the president, BCBSA. “The Blues believe that strengthening business diversity contributes to our organizational success and the overall economic well-being of the communities we serve and it’s our goal to instill diversity and inclusion within our business practices, for example by cultivating successful business partnerships with diverse suppliers across the country.”
BCBSA is committed to providing qualified minority-owned and women-owned business enterprises (M/WBEs) and small and small disadvantaged businesses (SADBUS) with the opportunity to conduct business with BCBSA nationally and its participating Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies in their local markets.
The DIV50 list is determined based on responses to an online survey of diverse business owners and represents the opinions of more than 750,000 eligible businesses based on their interactions with America’s top 500 corporations and government agencies.
The 11th annual list was produced by DiversityBusiness.com, the nation’s leading multicultural B2B online website. The businesses that completed the survey based their responses on factors such as volume, consistency and quality of business opportunities granted to women and minority-owned companies and the support provided to their communities.
“The DIV50 is a formal recognition of the respect held among business enterprises in the nation’s multicultural business community,” said Kenton Clarke, president and CEO, DiversityBusiness.com. “We applaud BCBSA for its efforts and for truly differentiating itself in the marketplace in a time when diversity has never been more important.”
BCBSA will be honored along with the other companies earning DIV50 recognition at a special awards ceremony at DiversityBusiness.com’s 11th Annual Multicultural Business Awards Ceremony and Conference in Washington, D.C., in April.
