Blue Cross And Blue Shield Association Named As One Of America’s Top Organizations For Multicultural Business Opportunities for 2013

March 14, 2013

CHICAGO – The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) was recently named as one of the “Top 50 Organizations for Multicultural Business Opportunities” by DiversityBusiness.com.  Called the Div50, the list recognizes the top 50 companies that differentiate themselves in the marketplace by providing the best opportunities and the most business for diversity-owned companies.  This is the third consecutive year that BCBSA has been recognized and ranks 20 on the 2013 list.

“BCBSA and the 38 independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies are committed to strengthening business diversity because it contributes to a successful organization and the overall economic well-being of the communities that we serve,” said Scott P. Serota, president and CEO, BCBSA.  “We are proud of the recognition from DiversityBusiness.com and our selection to the Div50 list and will continue to instill diversity and inclusion within our business practices.”

BCBSA provides qualified minority-owned and women-owned business enterprises (M/WBEs) and small and small disadvantaged businesses (SADBUS) with the opportunity to conduct business with BCBSA and with participating Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies in their local markets.

The 13th annual list was produced by DiversityBusiness.com, the nation’s leading multicultural B2B online website.  More than 1 million diversity business owners participated in an online election to determine the “Top” fifty organizations to make up the Div50.  The survey included 10 questions about diversity business in the marketplace.  The answers were based on factors such as volume, consistency and quality business opportunities granted to women and minority-owned companies.

“The diversity practices of the Div50 has changed over the course of economic inclusion and thereby the world as we know it,” said Kenton Clarke, CEO of DiversityBusiness.com.  “The great diversity and vision of our country and our people have made this possible. DiversityBusiness.com is proud to have been a force in the business world for such a positive change and opportunity.”

BCBSA will be honored along with the other companies earning Div50 recognition at a special awards ceremony in April at DiversityBusiness.com’s 13th Annual Multicultural Business Awards Ceremony and Conference.
