May 2, 2012
WASHINGTON – Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) President and CEO Scott P. Serota issued the following statement in support of the Department of Labor's new youth employment program and the launch of its new Summer Jobs+ Bank, an online tool to connect young people to jobs and other employment opportunities:
"The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association is pleased to support the Summer Jobs+ program as part of its long-standing commitment to providing pathways to employment for America's youth and young adults. Through its summer internship program and related community-based activities, BCBSA will provide at least 30 undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities to obtain hands-on experience in a wide range of healthcare-related areas, including public policy and government affairs, marketing, business and strategy development, customer service, and member engagement.
"BCBSA will also be working with its 38 member companies to provide additional opportunities for students across the country. Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies regularly give back to help their communities move forward, and through this new initiative, we will explore opportunities to offer employment and professional development opportunities for young adults nationwide."
