Blue Cross And Blue Shield Of Alabama Expands Be Healthy School Grant Program
March 14, 2013
BIRMINGHAM – In our commitment to help prevent childhood obesity, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama is expanding its Be Healthy School Grant Program. For the 2013-2014 school year, Blue Cross will more than double the available grant money to $250,000 and award grants up to $10,000 to 25 schools across the state who enroll students in grades K through six. This program expansion is due to the success of this school year’s grant program with Blue Cross proudly awarding grants totaling $67,000 to eight schools and over 1900 students in Alabama.
“We are extremely pleased with the results of this year’s school grant program. The interest and enthusiasm from students and faculty statewide shows that this is a solid investment in the long-term health of Alabama’s children,” says Jeff Adams, Community Relations Manager, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.
The grants are for the implementation of school-based health and wellness programs, emphasizing increased exercise, nutrition education and parental involvement during the school year. An electronic version of the Be Healthy School Grant Program application can be requested by emailing Jeff Adams at email@example.com, and completed applications are due to Blue Cross by April 26, 2013. Each selected school will receive a grant of up to $10,000, and schools will be further recognized with a Blue Cross Be Healthy School banner. In May 2014, students successfully completing their school’s program will be presented Be Healthy medals by Blue Cross.
