BCNEPA Upgrades Web Resources About Health Care Reform

New and improved website offers latest information for regional consumers

Wilkes-Barre, PA - Consumers looking for information about Health Care Reform have a new resource.  Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania (BCNEPA) has just launched a new and improved Health Care Reform section on its website at www.bcnepa.com/reform.

“A recent poll by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that 40 percent of Americans are unaware that federal Health Care Reform is the law of the land,” said A. Paul Holdren, Senior Vice President and Chief Sales & Marketing Officer for BCNEPA.  “With open enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace beginning October 1, this is the perfect time to help educate consumers about Health Care Reform.”

BCNEPA’s upgraded Health Care Reform site contains sections for both individuals and employers.

Members and individual consumers can find a year-by-year timeline of Health Care Reform provisions with explanations of how the provisions affect them.  For example, one provision for 2013 is a cap on contributions to Flexible Spending Accounts – that is, for plan years beginning on or after January 1, 2013, employee contributions are capped at $2,500 annually.

Changes that consumers need to be aware of for 2014 -- such as Essential Health Benefits that all plans on the Health Insurance Marketplace must offer, as well as subsidies and tax credits to help make coverage more affordable -- are also explained in detail on the site.

“The provisions that take effect in 2014 are the main components of Health Care Reform,” said Holdren.  “It’s important for all consumers to start preparing now for how these provisions may affect their current coverage, or if they don’t have insurance, how the provisions may help them obtain coverage.”    

Employers can also find information about how the major changes taking effect in 2014 may affect the coverage they offer to employees.

BCNEPA has added a downloadable, user-friendly Frequently Asked Questions sheet for consumers and employers as a quick reference guide for navigating the changes associated with Health Care Reform.

BCNEPA will add more resources to the site this fall, and will provide more education throughout the summer through town hall meetings, webinars and directly to BCNEPA employer groups through their Account Managers, according to Holdren.
