Blue Cross Blue Shield Of Delaware Hosts Olympic Event
June 7, 2012
WILMINGTON – As a new affiliate of Highmark Inc. (Highmark), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Delaware (BCBSD) had the opportunity to host an event to recognize Highmark’s relationship with the U.S. Olympic Team. As part of the event, which will also be held at seven other Highmark locations, the official torch from the Olympic Games in Atlanta was brought to BCBSD’s headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware.
In 2005, Highmark became the “Official Supplier to the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team.” Since then, Highmark has provided health insurance for thousands of athletes who participate in the winter and summer games, as well as the Paralympic Games.
“Highmark’s involvement with the Olympic team demonstrates the company’s commitment to the health and well-being of our nation’s best athletes, as they head into the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games,” said BCBSD President Timothy J. Constantine. “Highmark’s reputation as a leader and trusted partner in the health insurance industry is one of the reasons we wanted this affiliation for our company. The affiliation with Highmark has provided ― and will continue to provide us with new opportunities and services for our customers.”
Highmark-insured Team USA athletes carry a PPO Blue member card and use their health insurance while training, competing and traveling within the United States and overseas. The athletes’ coverage includes benefits for important preventive care, and coverage in and out of the provider network, which is comparable to plan designs that are offered to Highmark’s group customers.
At the local event, BCBSD employees had the opportunity to sign good luck banners that will be presented to members of Team USA, and were photographed with the torch from the Olympic Games in Atlanta.
