Blue Cross Of Idaho Names Zelda Geyer-Sylvia Interim President And CEO

BOISE – As part of the transition in the search for a new president and CEO at Blue Cross of Idaho, the company has announced Zelda Geyer-Sylvia as interim president and CEO effective immediately. Ms. Geyer-Sylvia is the current executive vice president and chief operating officer.

Ms. Geyer-Sylvia joined Blue Cross of Idaho in December, 2006, and brings exceptional credentials and professional experience to the interim position. Prior to Blue Cross of Idaho, Zelda was the president and CEO at M-Care, a 200,000 member not-for-profit managed care company owned by the University of Michigan. She received her master's degree in public health from Yale University and a bachelor of arts degree from Middlebury College in Vermont.

“We are very fortunate to have someone of Zelda’s caliber fill this interim president and CEO role,” said Mike Shirley, board chairman for Blue Cross of Idaho. “Her proven leadership over her past six years at the company will provide continuity for our members and our employees during this transition.”

In April, 2012, Ray Flachbart announced his retirement from the company as president and CEO. Under Ray’s leadership, Blue Cross of Idaho achieved a remarkable increase in membership growth which was the second highest in organic growth among all Blue Cross Blue Shield plans in the nation. In addition, Weiss Ratings, recently awarded Blue Cross of Idaho an A+ rating (for the seventh consecutive year), placing Blue Cross of Idaho in the top four percent of more than 1,200 insurance companies nationwide in terms of financial strength.
