Columbia, S.C. – BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina’s first retail store in the Upstate, South Carolina BLUESM, opens officially with a ribbon cutting event today and special activities planned for the public tomorrow.
The store is at 1025 Woodruff Road, Suite A105, in the Magnolia Park shopping center in Greenville, S.C. BlueCross executives and Greenville-area leaders attended the 10:30 a.m. ribbon cutting. BlueCross President Jim Deyling; Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce President Ben Haskew; S.C. Sen. Karl Allen, D-Greenville; S.C. Rep. Eric Bedingfield, R-Mauldin; and S.C. Rep. Mike Burns, R-Travelers Rest, made remarks.
“As we approach a milestone in health care reform in which individuals are required to have insurance, we know there are consumers who want face-to-face interaction in a comfortable setting while they are doing their research. Our store, the first in the Upstate, is here to serve first-time or repeat purchasers as well as to assist our existing customers on a more personalized level,” said Deyling.
Chamber President Ben Haskew said: “BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina opened its doors in Greenville in 1946 and has always found it a good place to do business. On behalf of the Greenville Chamber, I am excited to see that it is branching out in this way. It is good for the community and good for BlueCross to have this kind of one-on-one, face-to-face access to its Upstate customers. We are delighted that they are continuing their investment in Greenville.”
The public is invited to special events at the store from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. tomorrow. Activities will include balloon artists and a jumping inflatable obstacle course for children, giveaway items and prizes for adults, hot dogs for everyone, and greetings from the University of South Carolina’s Cocky and Clemson University’s Tiger. WSSL will broadcast live from the site and give out pizza.
Adults can get policy information, purchase insurance and sign up for community health and wellness classes to be conducted in the store in June and July. Classes include “Insurance 101: Learn the Ins and Outs of Health Insurance and How to Use Your Plan to its Full Potential,” 10:30–11:30, Saturday, June 2; “Managing Stress,” 6 p.m.–7 p.m., Monday, June 24; and “Healthy Cooking,” 6 p.m.–7 p.m., July 16.
Under the Affordable Care Act, all individuals are required to have health insurance beginning in 2014. Products available in the store include individual policies and group plans fully insured by BlueCross and by its subsidiary company, BlueChoice® HealthPlan of South Carolina. No appointments are needed. Regular store hours are 9 a.m.–7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Saturdays.
