CEO Says Blue Cross Has First Signups Under ACA
October 3, 2013
BATON ROUGE – Mike Reitz, President and CEO of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana, said this morning that a “small number” of submissions were forwarded to the insurer overnight by the Federal Fallback Marketplace—the online health insurance marketplace created by the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
“This is very encouraging, as it tells us that the government website is beginning to function,” Reitz said. “It is a modest beginning, but it’s an indication that the hundreds of thousands of uninsured Louisianians will now be able to go online and sign up for health insurance.”
Reitz also said he had word that independent insurance agents and Blue Cross sales agents statewide were holding hundreds of submissions in queues, awaiting the opportunity to submit them electronically as the online marketplace’s technical issues are solved.
More information about health insurance changes under the ACA, including the options for healthcare coverage, is available on Blue Cross’ healthcare reform site at www.bcbsla.com/reform.
