Community Members, Pets Invited To Free Health Fair At Capital BlueCross

Hosted in partnership with Humane Society of Harrisburg Area

October 3, 2013

HARRISBURG – People looking to spend a fun, healthy day with their family, including their pet, are invited to the third annual Healthy Pet, Healthy You free community health fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, on the grounds of Capital BlueCross at 2500 Elmerton Ave. in Harrisburg.

Hosted by Capital BlueCross in partnership with the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, Healthy Pet, Healthy You will feature fun activities, demonstrations and information to help keep family members (both two-legged and four-legged) healthy and living well. More than 90 exhibitors and vendors are participating. The Humane Society of Harrisburg Area cited the annual Healthy Pet, Healthy You event as one of the reasons why they have selected Capital BlueCross as their 2013 Community Partner Award recipient.

“Now in its third year, this free health fair is a great way for people and their pets to have a fun fall day,” said Stacy Balaban of Capital BlueCross, coordinator of the event. “Pets are such an important part of so many people’s lives. Healthy Pet, Healthy You is a celebration of the health benefits of pet ownership and offers activities and services for both two-leggers and four-leggers to be healthy. The event is one more way Capital BlueCross is helping to improve the health and well-being of our community.”

Low-cost health screenings and flu shots will be available for people, while pets can benefit from a low-cost vaccine and microchip clinic.  There will be fitness and canine demonstrations, health and pet-related exhibitors and vendors, and great food. Children can enjoy free activities including a bounce house, face painting, games and balloon animals. Anyone interested in pet adoption will have plenty of options thanks to the Humane Society and other rescue organizations that will be on hand.

And, back by popular demand, a costume contest will be held — this year for both kids and pets.

WRVV 97.3’s Glenn Hamilton will serve as the event emcee and WHTM TV-27’s Alicia Richards will lead The Jessica Drew Sunshine Memorial Fund Health Walk and Pet Parade at 1 p.m. BOB 94.9’s Nancy Ryan will also be on hand for a meet-and-greet with her beloved pets.

Healthy Pet, Healthy You will be held rain or shine.  Attendees are asked to register upon arrival. Goody bags will be provided to each family upon registration. For more information, visit www.healthypethealthyu.com.
