Food Bank Of Delaware Names Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware "Corporate Donor Of The Year"
April 25, 2013
WILMINGTON – Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware (Highmark Delaware) will be honored as the Food Bank of Delaware’s “Corporate Donor of the Year” at the Food Bank’s annual dinner tonight.
Earlier this year, Highmark Delaware awarded a $250,000 grant to the Food Bank as part of the health insurer’s “BluePrints for the Community” grant program, established in 2007 to address the health care needs of the Delaware community. The Food Bank is currently expanding its Milford, Del. facility, and is using this grant to support the facility’s new Culinary School Kitchen, which will provide job training for the unemployed while increasing the number of meals for distribution statewide.
“We are pleased to receive this honor, and proud to support the Food Bank of Delaware as it expands its Milford facility,” said Timothy J. Constantine, president of Highmark Delaware. “Nutritious food is a basic health requirement – a community that is hungry cannot be healthy. Highmark Delaware recognized the opportunity to help improve the health of our community – especially in an underserved area – through support of this initiative.”
“Nationally, Delaware has one of the highest percentages of residents who cannot afford food, and this is an issue that needs to be addressed by our community as a whole,” said Patricia Beebe, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Delaware. “Our supporters, such as Highmark Delaware, understand this responsibility, and play a critical role in our efforts to alleviate hunger in Delaware.”
The annual dinner will be held tonight at 5:30 p.m. at the Food Bank of Delaware’s Newark facility located at 14 Garfield Way.
