Health Care Mobile App Newest Way Capital BlueCross Meets Consumer Needs On-The-Go

Insurer sees 36 percent jump in web visits from mobile devices

HARRISBURG – Gone are the days of having important health care information like your medical conditions or prescriptions scattered on sheets of paper. Gone are the days of arriving at a doctor appointment without your health insurance identification card. Thanks to a new Capital BlueCross mobile app, your ID card, medical information and more are easily and always at your fingertips.

“Consumer preference for using mobile devices continues to rapidly increase,” said Lori Duarte, manager of Experiential Marketing at Capital BlueCross. “In fact, visits to our web site from mobile devices have grown 36 percent during the last year. People want quick and easy access to information whenever and from wherever they need it. That’s exactly what our new mobile app enables them to do. It is a one-stop shop for health information while you’re on-the-go.”

Available as a free download from Apple App Store and Google Play, the new app provides everyone, regardless of whether they are a Capital BlueCross customer, with a single convenient place to securely store their personal health information.

With a tap or swipe on their smartphone or other mobile device, users can scan and save their ID card, record medical information, keep track of appointments, search for doctors and hospitals, and read health and wellness news. Individuals choose what health care information they wish to store, and the app can only be accessed by entering a PIN set by the individual user.

The new mobile app is among many Capital BlueCross technology initiatives to empower and bring greater convenience to consumers. The company’s web sites now all use responsive design for optimal viewing on any device. Its “Search & Save Center” features a provider finder, a treatment cost comparison tool and an out-of-pocket cost estimator all in one convenient online portal. And the insurer recently launched ChooseCapitalBlue.com, which walks consumers through buying a health plan on the health insurance Marketplace or directly through Capital BlueCross.
