Highmark And 20 Of Its Group Customers Recognized Among Western Pennsylvania's Healthiest Employers

June 14, 2012

PITTSBURGH – At an awards ceremony today in Pittsburgh, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and 20 of its group health insurance customers were recognized among the Healthiest Employers in Western Pennsylvania. The award marks the second year running that Pennsylvania's largest health insurer and many of its customers have been lauded for creating and implementing outstanding health and wellness programs that measure up to rigorous standards. A total of 38 western Pennsylvania employers received the Healthiest Employers honor, which is sponsored by the Pittsburgh Business Times.

"It's a positive indicator when Highmark and so many of our group customers are recognized in the community for creating programs that encourage and often reward employees to stay healthy," said Donald Fischer, M.D., Highmark senior vice president and chief medical officer. "Workplace wellness programs are proven to result in healthier, more productive employees and to lower costs of health care. We applaud the winners and encourage more employers to get on board."

Among the resources that Highmark offers its employees are wellness programs, health screenings, flu shots, fitness centers, health education, health and wellness coaching, a personal electronic health record and a health insurance incentive program that links healthy lifestyles to reductions in health insurance premium costs. Many of its group customers offer similar programs or services for their employees.
