Highmark Releases Latest Federal Enrollment Numbers And Sees Significant Interest In Its Community Blue Plans In Pennsylvania

December 10, 2013

PITTSBURGH — Highmark has seen incremental improvement in the number of enrollments received through the federal health insurance marketplace during the past month.

Highmark's current enrollment* through the federal marketplace to date is:

  • Pennsylvania: 10,112
  • West Virginia: 1,237
  • Delaware: 651

Highmark is committed to making affordable health care coverage available to individuals and offers the lowest priced health plans on the marketplaces in Pennsylvania and Delaware, and in West Virginia, we are the only insurer on the marketplace.

There is a continual need to improve the functionality of the federal marketplace and encourage consumers to enroll by Dec. 23, 2013 for the earliest effective date of Jan. 1, 2014.

In the state of Pennsylvania, Highmark has seen significant interest in its Community Blue plans, which leverage a highly-efficient network of community hospitals and doctors to provide quality care at a lower price. Of all of the plans sold by Highmark on the federal marketplace, 76 percent of those in western Pennsylvania and 80 percent of those in central Pennsylvania have been Community Blue plans.

"We believe that select-network plans, like Community Blue, are one of the health insurance industry's best tools to help members lower their health care costs," said Deborah Rice-Johnson, president of Highmark's health plans.

*Enrollment numbers as of Dec. 9, 2013 are of those who have been loaded to Highmark's system through completed on-exchange enrollments (834s that have been verified and processed by Highmark). These enrolled members may have not yet paid their first month's premium, therefore have not completed the entire enrollment process.
