Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield Of New Jersey Names Erhardt H.L. Preitauer As Senior Vice President Of Government Programs

NEWARK – Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey announced today that Erhardt H. L. Preitauer has been named to the new position of Senior Vice President, Government Programs, effective October 29, 2013. In this role, Mr. Preitauer will manage Horizon BCBSNJ’s Medicare and Medigap businesses and also serve as chief executive officer of Horizon NJ Health, the state’s largest Medicaid plan. He will report to Kevin Conlin, Executive Vice President of Healthcare Management.

“Erhardt brings significant experience managing government health insurance programs and will add strong leadership to our newly created division dedicated to capitalizing on opportunities in our growing government program businesses,” said Robert A. Marino, Chairman and CEO of Horizon BCBSNJ. Since 2006, Horizon BCBSNJ has seen enrollment in its Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and Medigap products grow by 65 percent.

Before joining Horizon BCBSNJ, Mr. Preitauer served as Central Region Head of Aetna Medicaid where he held responsibility for institutional and community-based long-term care, behavioral health, and integrated Medicaid and Medicare programs. Prior to his position at Aetna, Mr. Preitauer served as president of ‘Ohana Health Plan, owned by Wellcare, providing Medicaid and Medicare plans in Hawaii. During his five year tenure, the ‘Ohana Health Plan was recognized as WellCare’s flagship plan and led the country in quality, operational, and financial measures.

Mr. Preitauer has also held a number of other significant leadership positions during his career, including senior management roles with UnitedHealth Group, Great-West Healthcare and CIGNA Healthcare.

Mr. Preitauer received a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and Economics from the University of Nevada and a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Strategic Management and Corporate Innovation from Pennsylvania State University. He and his wife, and their two children, plan to relocate to New Jersey.
