    Applications Now Available For BlueCHIP® Awards Program Recognizing Healthy Kansas Communities 

    Program expanded to award six communities with $2,500 each Kansas communities that are promoting healthier environments for their residents are encouraged to apply by Dec. 10 for an award from the BlueCHIP ® community health improvement program. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS) and Kansas Recreation and Park Association (KRPA) have not only renewed their BlueCHIP partnership for a fourth year, but have also expanded the awards program to recognize six communities. Each of the six winning communities will receive $2,500 to assist them in furthering their health and wellness efforts.

    Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield Of New Jersey Expands Prime Therapeutics’ Pharmacy Benefit Management Services To Medicare Beneficiaries 

    Beginning January 1, 2014, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey‘s Medicare beneficiaries will receive pharmacy services through Prime Therapeutics LLC (Prime). Prime began providing pharmacy benefit management services to commercial members on July 1, 2013. The two companies said that expanding their relationship will help drive additional savings in pharmacy costs and improve services and programs to Horizon BCBSNJ’s Medicare members.

    Premera Blue Cross Enters Medicare Advantage Market In 2014  

    Premera Blue Cross today announced that it will be entering the Medicare Advantage market in 2014 with the introduction of a new suite of Medicare Advantage plans that will be available in five counties across Washington state. The new health plans have been created to appeal to a variety of consumer segments. The Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and Health Maintenance Organization with a Point of Service (HMO-POS) plan options offer a range of affordable price points and benefit designs to meet the unique budget and healthcare needs of Medicare-eligible individuals. Premera Blue Cross Medicare Advantage Plans will initially be offered to residents of King, Pierce, Snohomish, Thurston and Spokane counties.

    Independence Blue Cross Launches Reform-Ready Health Plans For Individuals 

    Starting today, Independence Blue Cross (IBC), the region's leading health insurer, will offer 13 different health plans with more than 30 options for individuals on the new federal health insurance marketplace in Pennsylvania with coverage effective January 1, 2014. Included in the new suite of products are HMO and PPO plans across all metallic levels and Keystone HMO Proactive — IBC's lower-cost tiered network benefits plans.     Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield Of New Jersey’s Anti-Fraud Efforts Yield Savings And Recoveries To Members, Health System 

    Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) announced today that its efforts to combat health insurance fraud resulted in $16.5 million in savings - identified as a combination of monies recovered and losses avoided – through the first eight months of 2013. The anti-fraud efforts, led by Horizon’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU), also yielded $26 million in 2012. A total of 776 new cases were opened during the calendar year.
