    Healthy Ride Bike Share Program Launches In Pittsburgh With Support From Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield And Allegheny Health Network  

    The City of Pittsburgh announced today that Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and Allegheny Health Network will serve as the title sponsors of Healthy Ride, a new bike sharing system in Pittsburgh. Through the program, 500 bikes will be placed at 50 stations throughout the city, from Oakland, to downtown, to South Side, facilitating point-to-point transportation. The system will officially launch in May.

    This week, Independence Blue Cross (Independence) and HealthShare Exchange of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Inc. (HSX) will announce the preliminary results of the region's unique health information exchange at the HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition held April 12 to 16 in Chicago. HIMMS is the largest health information technology meeting in the world and attracts nearly 40,000 attendees from around the globe. HSX is the nation's only health information exchange in a major population area designed and built as a collaboration between health insurers and hospitals.

    Blue Cross And Blue Shield Of Illinois Employees Volunteer More Than 39,000 Hours  

    Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois (BCBSIL) employees doubled the number of hours they volunteered in their communities in 2014 to 39,001 hours That's up from 19,319 hours in 2013. Employees at offices in Chicago, Jacksonville, Rockford and other sites around the state touched many lives by donating their time with activities such as making beds at homeless shelters, packing supplies for Veterans and helping build playgrounds.

    Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey (Horizon BCBSNJ) announced today that its efforts to combat health insurance fraud resulted in $45.4 million in savings -- identified as a combination of monies recovered and losses avoided -- in 2014. The $45.4 million represents the highest/recovery prevention total since Horizon BCBSNJ created its fraud fighting, Special Investigations Unit (SIU) in 1983. Since 2005, Horizon BCBSNJ's anti-fraud efforts have saved members $261 million.
