Independence Blue Cross Star Ratings Increase For Its Medicare Advantage Plans ›
Independence Blue Cross (IBC) announced that its Personal Choice 65 Medicare Advantage health plan received a 4.5 star rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) for 2013, an increase of one point. IBC’s two HMO plans, (Keystone 65 Select and Keystone 65 Preferred), received 4 stars, a half point increase. These are IBC’s highest ratings since CMS implemented the Star system in 2007. In addition, IBC had the highest rated PPO plan and one of the highest-rated HMO plans in the five-county region.

The Foundation will be making direct grants to the American Red Cross (North Jersey Chapter), the Salvation Army (New Jersey Division), the Community FoodBank of New Jersey, and the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Fund. In addition, the Foundation will match employee donations to those organizations on a three-to-one basis.

Independence Blue Cross Extends Funding To Enhance Patient Safety At Area Hospitals ›
Independence Blue Cross announced today that it will extend its support for the Partnership for Patient Care, a quality and patient safety collaborative led by southeastern Pennsylvania hospitals, with funding up to $1.1 million through 2013. The funding will be provided to the Health Care Improvement Foundation, a nonprofit health and safety organization that oversees the Partnership’s projects. Matching funds will be raised from the hospital community, reflecting their commitment to accelerating the implementation of evidence-based clinical practices. Earlier this year, IBC contributed $500,000 to support the Partnership in 2012.

Healthways (NASDAQ: HWAY) and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield (CareFirst) today announced an extension of disease management solutions through 2015 representing a population of approximately 1.2 million in the Maryland and greater DC region. The contract provides access to services for a number of chronic conditions to nearly 600,000 members that CareFirst serves within the Federal Employees Program (FEP) as an administrator for the federal government and chronic condition services to about 90 ASO self-insured employer customers of CareFirst representing about 600,000 employees and beneficiaries of those employees. The contract extensions allow CareFirst and Healthways to continue to expand services to additional employer customers of CareFirst in the future.
