More Than 2,000 Alabamians Take A Step Towards Better Health At National Walk @ Lunch Day

BIRMINGHAM – An initial look at registration numbers show more than 2,000 people representing over 35 companies and organizations laced up their tennis shoes to participate in National Walk @ Lunch Day in Alabama. Walks kicked off every thirty minutes at Linn Park in Birmingham, along with free Zumba classes throughout the event. Participation also reached Mobile, Alabama, where more than 300 walkers hit the pavement to take steps towards healthier lifestyles. These record-breaking numbers definitely send the message that Alabamians are taking accountability for their own health and want to lead a healthier lifestyle.
Blue Cross was honored to partner with the City of Birmingham, which added to the success of this year’s event. City of Birmingham Mayor, William A. Bell, publicly proclaimed April 25, 2012 as National Walk @ Lunch Day. Jefferson County Manager, Tony Petelos, also participated by leading one of the largest walks of the day.
