OneSight Vision Van Clinics Provide Free Vision Care and Eyewear to Students in Need
Community collaboration by OneSight and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation brings vision care to Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS – Hundreds of Indianapolis-area students will receive comprehensive vision exams and new eyewear free of charge this week at Vision Van Clinics thanks to a collaboration between Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation and OneSight, a leading charity dedicated to providing sustainable access to quality vision care, eyewear and sun protection to those in need around the world.
The need for vision care among children is especially critical. According to the American Optometric Association, up to 94 percent of children with reading problems have reduced visual skills.
“Eight percent of what we learn is visual, yet one in four students in North America has an undetected vision problem,” said Dr. Jason Singh, O.D., OneSight executive director. “We believe every child deserves access to quality vision care. Our Vision Van Clinics enable us to provide high quality exams and eyewear to those that need it most. We appreciate our collaboration with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield whose generous grant funds make it possible to help thousands of students see better and learn better.”
Since 1995, OneSight Vision Van Clinics have provided eye exams and new glasses to more than 13,000 children throughout Indiana. During its upcoming visit, OneSight doctors will provide care to 225 students during the two-day clinic supported by Anthem volunteers.
Known as “Eyeleen,” OneSight’s Vision Van is a 40-foot mobile optical facility with state-of-the-art exam and lab equipment. Patients receive comprehensive eye exams and prescription glasses manufactured on site. Before each Clinic, volunteers work with local community organizations to identify and schedule students in need of the Vision Van’s services.
On Thursday, April 18, several Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield employees will volunteer their time helping students through the exam process with OneSight doctors.

In addition to giving back to the community through our grant, we also encourage our employees to get involved and as volunteers at the clinic.”
Working alongside Anthem volunteers are local doctors and associates of Luxottica retail brands, including LensCrafters, Sunglass Hut, Pearle Vision, Sears Optical, Target Optical and ILORI.
Note: Vision Van services are scheduled through local community partners; walk-in appointments are not available.
The need for vision care is staggering — 733 million adults and children worldwide suffer from vision loss. For 563 million, a pair of glasses would restore their vision.
