Seniors Can Get Moving With 2014 BlueCross Medicare Advantage Plans

November 4, 2013

COLUMBIA – BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina’s Medicare Advantage plans, now in open enrollment for 2014, have a new benefit – access to a network of fitness facilities for an annual copayment.

Seniors opting for these plans can join any of  more than 125 exercise and fitness centers in South Carolina that participate in American Specialty Health Fitness Inc.’s  Silver&Fit® Exercise and Healthy Aging Program for Medicare Advantage members (www.SilverandFit.com).

Once enrolled in the Medicare Advantage Plan, members contact the network facility of their choice directly. A home exercise program is available for those who are unable to participate at a fitness facility or who prefer to work out at home.

“Our Medicare Advantage members like to be active and want to improve their quality of life by exercising more, so we’ve incorporated this new healthy aging program with our products,” said BlueCross Vice President Steele Pendleton.

Other enhancements in the 2014 Medicare Advantage products include decreased primary care copays and decreased generic prescription drug copays. The plans include health, drug, dental and vision coverage.

Open enrollment for Medicare Advantage – which is separate from the sign-ups underway for the under-age-65 individual insurance mandates of the Affordable Care Act – is Oct. 15 until Dec. 7. Seniors may sign up through insurance agents or directly with BlueCross by calling 800-760-3690, visiting www.SCBlueAdvantage.com or a South Carolina BLUESM retail center (www.scblueretailcenters.com).
