WellPoint Recognized For Making Medicare Materials Easier For Members To Understand
Latest Award Marks Second Time Company Has Been Honored in this Area

INDIANAPOLIS – For the second time, WellPoint's marketing group has been awarded for its work in making certain materials for its affiliated Medicare plans easier for members to understand.
The company's Medicare Marketing Regulated Communications Team received a ClearMark "Award of Distinction" from the Center for Plain Language for its work on the WellPoint affiliated version of Medicare's Evidence of Coverage (EOC).
The EOC is sent annually to Medicare members, usually in the fall, giving them details about any changes to their plan from the previous year. Much of the language is required by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), but some elements can be changed. WellPoint's team focused on those parts, creating a new cover, highlighting important points and reducing jargon. Early indications show a significant reduction in the number of member complaints to CMS among those who received the new mailing.
Previously, the same group received an "Award of Distinction" for its work on another WellPoint affiliated Medicare document, the Medicare Advantage Enrollment Kit.
"Medicare can be complicated," said Marc Russo, president of WellPoint's Medicare programs. "Making it less complicated is part of our core mission of being easy to do business with."
The latest award was presented April 22 at the National Press Club.
WellPoint affiliates are PPO, LPPO, RPPO and HMO plans with a Medicare contract. Enrollment in WellPoint affiliates depends on contract renewal.
