WALK TO: Artomatic 2009
Held regularly since 1999, Artomatic transforms an unfinished indoor space into an exciting and diverse arts event that is free and open to the public. In addition to displays by hundreds of artists, the event features free films, educational presentations and children’s activities, as well as musical, dance, poetry, theater and other performances.

WALK TO: Smithsonian Folklife Festival 2009
A special annual event sponsored by the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage that celebrates cultural traditions around the world. It includes daily music and dance performances, storytelling, crafts and cooking demonstrations and discussions of cultural issues. The themes of the 2009 program will be: Giving Voice: The Power of Words in African American Culture, The Americas and Wales.

First Friday of every month
WALKING EVENT: First Friday Dupont Circle Art Walk
Enjoy the beautiful streets of Dupont Circle as neighborhood art galleries stay open until 8 p.m. on the first Friday of every month. The majority of the galleries are located along Connecticut Avenue, on both sides north of the circle between the Circle and Florida Street, and along R Street between 20th Street and 21st Street.

WALK TO: Exploring the Early Americas at the Library of Congress
Take a break and walk down to the Library of Congress, where Exploring the Early Americas features selections from the more than 3,000 rare maps, documents, paintings, prints and artifacts that make up the Jay I. Kislak Collection at the Library of Congress.

WALK TO: Designing the Lincoln Memorial
Walk to the National Gallery of Art to view the history of the Lincoln Memorial. The six-foot-high plaster working model of the celebrated seated Lincoln statue by American sculptor Daniel Chester French (1850–1931), designed for the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall, will be on view in honor of President Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday. The plaster — used for the carving of the final 19-foot-high figure from 28 blocks of Georgia marble — is being lent to a museum for the first time by Chesterwood Estate and Museum, French's country home and studio in Stockbridge, Mass., a national and Massachusetts historic landmark.

WALK TO: Manhunt, Chasing Lincoln’s Killer
Travel just a few blocks to the Newseum to view their new exhibit Manhunt: Chasing Lincoln's Killer, which explores how new developments in journalism and technology came together in the news coverage of Abraham Lincoln's death and the hunt for his killer.
