What is the Challenge?

Starting May 20, members of Congress and their staffs are invited to participate in the 7th annual WalkingWorks Capitol Hill Challenge. The Challenge is a healthy competition to see which office on Capitol Hill can walk the greatest distance over six weeks while promoting physical activity and benefiting a charity along the way.

Offices will compete in two categories: Total Miles Walked and Average Miles per Walker. House offices must have at least 5 registered walkers to be eligible to win and Senate offices must have at least 10. The winning offices will be crowned the Top Walkers on the Hill and become the annual keepers of one of the two highly coveted Blue Shoe trophies.

How to get started

Please visit the Capitol Hill Challenge Health Fairs on May 19 and May 20 to sign up for the 2009 event. After signing up, you and your colleagues can grab a light breakfast, learn ways to achieve a healthier lifestyle and pick up your WalkingWorks® kit, which includes a pedometer, t-shirt and walking materials (falls within gift guidelines). And make sure to sign up and pick up extra kits for your district staff so they can compete, too!
