NPI Overview and Resources White Paper (PDF)

BCBSA has developed National Provider Identifier (NPI) resource tool for healthcare providers, both for large practices and institutional providers and for individual providers and small group practices, that give an overview of the HIPAA-mandated NPI requirements. The tool explains why it is important for providers to act now in regard to obtaining, reporting and implementing their NPIs and suggests actions that providers can take to ensure compliance by the May 2007 deadline. The resource guides are intended for educational purposes only.

NPI Webcast Audio

In December of 2006, BlueCross BlueShield Association, along with Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI’s NPI Outreach Initiative), hosted two NPI audio cast sessions as resources for providers about the importance of obtaining their NPIs in order to meet the May 23, 2007 compliance deadline - The NPI Basics: the basics of what it is, what to do, and when to do it.

One 60 minute session is for "individual and small practice providers", and the other 60 minute session is for "large practice and institutional providers". These two audio casts include PowerPoint slide materials designed to educate providers about the NPI, how to obtain an NPI, and about the actions they need to take before and after they get their NPIs.  Below are the links to access the on-demand audio of the sessions:

Access to Webcast 1 - (for Individual Providers and Small Group Practices)

Access to Webcast 2 - (for Large Practices and Institutional Providers)
