WASHINGTON – FEP BlueVision SM, which is administered by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association's (BCBSA) Federal Employee Program® (FEP®) on behalf of participating Blue Plans, has been selected to offer vision care benefits to federal employees, retirees, and family members.  The benefits will be available to federal employees beginning Dec. 31, 2006.

FEP BlueVision SM builds on FEP’s more than 45 years of proven excellence in delivering solid, high-value health services that meet the diverse needs of federal employees, retirees and their dependents.  Eligible federal employees selecting FEP BlueVision SM during the 2006 Open Season next fall will have access to an extensive national network of optometrists, ophthalmologists and many of the nation’s premiere retail centers, and laboratory systems throughout the United States and abroad.

“FEP is pleased to offer FEP BlueVision SM, a comprehensive vision product, to federal employees, retirees and their families.  FEP BlueVision SM will care for and protect its' members' vision and, by extension, their overall health,” stated Stephen W. Gammarino, BCBSA’s senior vice president, National Programs.  “FEP’s long-standing dependability and commitment to providing the best value in healthcare services extends to our new vision product.  We are proud to be able to continue to serve federal employees and retirees with our established abilities to deliver responsive, quality care in a timely manner."

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Government-wide Service Benefit Plan, or FEP, has been part of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program since its inception in 1960.  FEP covers roughly 4.6 million federal employees, retirees and their families who receive their benefits through FEHBP.  BCBSA works with the Office of Personnel Management to administer the Service Benefit Plan on behalf of the 39 independent Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans.
