Blue Cross And Blue Shield Association Works With Health Care Leaders To Develop HCCU Proposal To Cover Uninsured Americans

WASHINGTON – The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) is pleased to have worked with an unprecedented alliance of other influential health care organizations to develop the proposal announced today by the Health Coverage Coalition for the Uninsured (HCCU). This proposal, if enacted, would make coverage available to a significant portion of the 47 million Americans without health insurance.
As a member of the HCCU coalition, BCBSA worked for over two years with a diverse range of health care leaders to reach consensus on helping the millions of Americans without health coverage. Each member of HCCU came to the table with divergent ideologies, but put the interests of America's uninsured first – even if it meant moving away from long-held positions.
BCBSA believes the HCCU proposal will be an important starting point as Congress considers solutions to reduce the number of Americans without health insurance.
