Thirteen Blue Cross And Blue Shield Companies Receive Distinguished Brand Excellence Award

CHICAGO – The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) recognized thirteen Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies with a "Brand Excellence Award" for their commitment in developing and enhancing the overall image of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Brands during 2008.
"The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Brands are the most recognized in the health insurance industry and represent the nation's oldest and largest family of health benefit companies," said Scott P. Serota, BCBSA president and CEO. "BCBSA congratulates the winning Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies for their leadership in strengthening the Brands and for their commitment toward providing premier service, while meeting and exceeding customer and provider expectations."
BCBSA created the Brand Excellence Awards in 1995 to recognize Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies nationwide in categories that promote the Blue Brands including attracting new customers, fostering loyalty to existing customers, expanding the Blue brands into additional lines of products or services, and provider satisfaction.
The recipients of the 2008 Brand Excellence Awards are:
Brand Awareness – Having the greatest positive change in the number of consumers that were aware of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Brands.
- Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania
- Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield (Colorado and Connecticut)
Brand Extension – Attracting the highest percentage of members in Blue Cross and Blue Shield branded specialty products, including dental, vision and pharmacy management.
Enrollment Growth – Having the highest percentage of new members enrolled over the past year among Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies.

Member Retention – Having a high member retention rate over the previous year.

Provider Satisfaction – Receiving the highest rating from its provider network among the other Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies.

Results are based on a system-wide survey reviewed by a third-party research firm who determined the percentage of local market consumers who were aware of the local Blue Cross and Blue Shield Brand.
