WASHINGTON – Scott P. Serota, president and chief executive officer of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), released the following statement after participating in today's White House Forum on Health Reform:

"President Obama is correct that we can not afford to put off fixing our healthcare system for one more day.  The president and today's White House forum helped shine a light on the urgent need to lower costs, eliminate fraud, waste and ineffective treatment, and reduce the number of uninsured.

"BCBSA and the 39 Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies stand ready to do our part to work with the administration and Congress to improve this foundation of the economy as we help answer the challenges of lowering costs, improving quality and expanding coverage for everyone.

"I appreciate President Obama including BCBSA in today's discussion, and we look forward to working together on comprehensive healthcare reform."

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association is a national federation of 39 independent, community-based and locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies that collectively provide healthcare coverage for 100 million members - one-in-three Americans.
