Christine Izui
Ms. Izui is the Executive Director of Quality Initiatives in the Office of Clinical Affairs division of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. In this capacity she represents BCBS Plans' viewpoint on many quality related committees, provides leadership for national hospital and physician quality improvement initiatives, and oversees the Distinctively Blue educational conferences and Distinctively Blue Awards program.
Ms. Izui serves as the chairperson of the Health Plan Council for the National Quality Forum (NQF). She is a member of two other National Quality Forum groups as well: the Leadership Council and the Steering Committee for Setting Priorities, Efficiency Measurement. Ms. Izui is the chair of the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA) Mortality workgroup. She also is involved with the AQA and the AMA Physician Consortium for Performance Improvement (PCPI). Ms. Izui was appointed to the Steering Committee of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance.
Prior to joining the Association, Ms. Izui was the Director of Quality at the Hospital Research and Educational Trust of the American Hospital Association. She led the national Quality Measurement and Management Project which aggregated quality data for 12 hospital systems. Ms. Izui, as the Vice President at Midwest Business Group on Health, created quality metrics for purchaser use in direct hospital contracting. Prior to that, Ms. Izui was an Associate Director of Ambulatory Care Accreditation at the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations.
Ms. Izui has served as a juror for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Ms. Izui received a baccalaureate degree from the University of Virginia, in Charlottesville, Virginia.
