PROVIDENCE – Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) recently received the "Distinction" award for the Best Overall Internet Site in the HMO/PPO/Other Insurers category at the 2008 eHealthcare Leadership Awards. An independent panel of individuals familiar with healthcare and the Internet evaluated more than 1,100 entries.
Internet sites were judged according to how they compared to other sites in their same classification, and by a standard of excellence. Judges for the Best Overall Internet Site award considered factors such as interactivity, medical care support, delivery of strong health content, strength of design, and simplicity of navigation. The winners were recently announced at the Twelfth Annual Healthcare Internet Conference in Orlando.
"We have worked hard to provide an Internet site that is user-friendly, interesting, and above all, useful for our members in their health pursuits," said James E. Purcell, President and CEO of BCBSRI.
The eHealthcare Leadership Award program recognizes the best Web sites of healthcare providers, online health companies, healthcare associations, pharmaceutical/medical equipment firms, health plans, suppliers, business improvement initiatives, and other healthcare organizations. These awards recognize the role the Internet plays in accomplishing an organization's business objectives, as well as the hard work required to produce exceptional health Web sites.
