BlueCross’ Documentary “The Color of Blood” Wins Award

CHATTANOOGA — The Color of Blood, the third video in BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee's African-American Contributions Series, has won a 2009 Aegis Award for video and film production.

The Color of Blood tells the story of African-Americans and their fight for equal rights in the United States military. The 26-minute documentary features historians, professors and veterans who experienced this controversial time firsthand.

 "The Color of Blood is an extraordinary story about a very important, yet often overlooked time, in African-American history," said Ron Harris, manager of workforce diversity for BlueCross. "Winning this award is a testament to the struggles these brave men and women faced."

The Aegis Awards are the video industry's premier competition for peer recognition of outstanding video productions and non-network TV commercials. This year's Aegis Award is the first for BlueCross.

The African-American Contributions Series is a video series sponsored and produced by BlueCross that highlights the achievements of African-Americans throughout history. The DVDs are sent to Tennessee-area schools and museums to be used as an educational resource for educators and students.
