Customers’ Financial Account Information Now Easier to Manage

CHATTANOOGA — BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has now made it easier to manage customers' financial account information with internal, integrated health reimbursement arrangement (HRA) and flexible spending account (FSA) administration, effective Jan. 1, 2009.

"Our integrated HRAs and FSAs offer a much simpler enrollment and management process for our customers," said Paul Kulpa, product manager for the marketing-product development department at BlueCross. "Because the administration process is now done internally, not only can we allow our customers easier access to insurance information but a significant financial savings as well."

Because HRAs and FSAs are now fully incorporated through BlueCross' internal claims processing system, it offers a smoother, more convenient experience.  With automatic reimbursement, the claims are substantiated through the claims processing system and money is automatically distributed out of the appropriate account.

Consumer-driven health care – a high-deductible health plan (HDHP) paired with an HRA or an FSA – enables the consumer to have more control of how their health care dollars are spent. The process and management for employers is also much easier, allowing smoother enrollment, claims and administration.

"After a successful pilot phase including a large, key client, we feel that now is the time to open this up to the public," said Kulpa.

With the recent economic slump, BlueCross has seen an increase in CDHP enrollment. In response, they have enhanced their products for better usability as employers look for more affordable, employee, health care options.
