Marsh Elected Chairman, Two New Directors Named To Blue Cross And Blue Shield Of Kansas Board Of Directors

Steven D. Marsh, a certified public accountant (CPA) from Wichita, was elected to a one-year term as chairman of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Board of Directors at its annual meeting May 8 in Topeka. Gary D. Shorman, Hays, was selected to a one-year term as vice chairman while Diane L. Lee, Hutchinson, Robert L. Mullen, Lyons, Steve W. Sloan, Pittsburg, Kenneth W. Winter, Dodge City, and Marsh were elected to terms on the board of directors for the state's largest health insurance company.

Marsh, who was re-elected to a four-year term as a director, joined the board in 1981 and most recently served as vice chairman for three years. Shorman is president/CEO of Eagle Communications in Hays and joined the board in 2005. Mullen, administrator of Hospital District 1 of Rice County, also was re-elected to a four-year term on the board. Winter, general manager of Winter Feed Yard, Dodge City, was confirmed to complete an unexpired term and will serve three years.

Lee and Sloan were each elected to their first, four-year term on the board. Lee is owner/shareholder of Bartlett, Settle & Edgerle, CPAs in Hutchinson. She joined the firm in early 1974 after earning a bachelor's degree in business administration from Wichita State University in 1973. She is a life-long resident of Hutchinson, and is a member of the Kansas Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Sloan has served as president and CEO of Midwest Minerals Inc., since 1995. He is a native of Wichita who earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas in 1983. He is a member of the Kansas Aggregate Producers' Association and the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association. He is a trustee of the Pittsburg State University Foundation and is a 1998 graduate of Leadership Kansas.

Other members of the 16-person board are James M. Alley, III, D.D.S., Wichita; Leon J. Boor, Abilene; Andrew C. Corbin, Topeka; Rex R. Fischer, M.D., Manhattan; Robin R. LacKamp, Concordia; Edward J. Miller, Iola; Louis E. (Gene) Mosiman, Topeka; Thomas C. Simpson, M.D., Sterling; Susan M. Smith, Wichita; and Cathy Mih Taylor, M.D., Chanute.
