Our healthcare system is in desperate need of reform. With nearly 50 million Americans uninsured and skyrocketing costs that are bankrupting individuals, businesses and governments, the status quo is not an option.
In President Obama's February 24th speech to Congress, he said "let there be no doubt: healthcare reform cannot wait, it must not wait, and it will not wait another year." It is time to accept his challenge and embrace the changes that are necessary to ensure health coverage for every American.
Nothing can be off the table and every player must be prepared to give up something they hold dear. We're willing to change our business model as part of a new system of universal coverage and we hope the others at today’s meeting are willing to do the same. At summits like this one, we can't just talk about change…we must collaborate to make it happen.
