BlueWorks® is a signature program within the Blue Cross and Blue Shield System's Healthcare Cost Campaign. It is designed to showcase innovative programs developed by local BCBS companies that are helping keep healthcare affordable and improve quality.  BlueWorks programs are important examples of real, working solutions that can be replicated in other communities and in the industry as a whole.

In a unique collaboration with researchers from the Harvard Medical School's Department of Health Care Policy, the BlueWorks program recognizes Blue company initiatives that demonstrate the most innovative ways to improve healthcare quality, affordability and accessibility. BCBSA distributes and promotes the Harvard research team's findings and encourages the adoption of these initiatives as actions of health plans can take now to help keep healthcare affordable.

As healthcare costs continue to drive up health insurance premiums, BlueWorks spotlights BCBS company initiatives that are creating a difference in their communities. With healthcare needs varying across the country, BlueWorks demonstrates that local actions taken across the country can have an immediate impact on healthcare affordability.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Healthcare Cost Campaign starts with a solid, fact-based understanding of what's driving up healthcare costs. BCBSA has built one of the most comprehensive compendiums of research detailing the drivers of healthcare costs. Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies are sharing this information and working with community leaders to find local solutions to keeping quality healthcare affordable and accessible.

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association is made up of 39 independent, locally owned and operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies that collectively provide healthcare coverage for more than 97 million – nearly one-in-three – Americans.
