Maureen A. Cahill is senior vice president, and chief human resources officer for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), a national federation of 36 independent, community-based and locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies. The Blue System is the nation's largest health insurer covering one-in-three of all Americans. It is the largest single processor of Medicare claims in the nation and holds the world's largest privately underwritten health insurance contract — the 5.4 million-member Federal Employee Program (FEP).
Cahill directs the corporate human resources function for the Association, accountable for its strategic direction and the management of the executive and nonexecutive employee benefit and compensation programs, talent acquisition, employee relations, and training and career development. She is also responsible for the development and management of the BCBSA HR Leadership Forum whose participants include the heads of human resources across the federation of Plans. The Forum is focused on best practice sharing, creating opportunities for development and leveraging the scale of the Plans to increase purchasing power in the HR arena. Prior to joining BCBSA, Cahill served as a vice president and senior vice president at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and its parent company, Highmark Health. As senior vice president of Highmark’s Total Rewards program, Cahill identified more than $9 million in savings through vendor consolidation and welfare benefit integration and developed a three-year benefit alignment strategy across three hospital systems. Earlier in her career, Cahill served as a managing principal and in various other roles at Aon Hewitt.
Cahill has a bachelor’s degree in business management from North Central College and an MBA from DeVry University’s Keller Graduate School of Management.
