Robin Sanders is Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and Risk for the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), a national federation of independent, community-based and locally operated Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) companies. Today, one in three Americans is covered by the Blue System.
In this role, Sanders manages attorneys, compliance and audit professionals, with accountability for a broad portfolio, including litigation, cybersecurity, data use, privacy, antitrust compliance, audit, and anti-fraud activities at BCBSA and in support of the Blue System. Additionally, Sanders serves as the BCBSA Incident Coordinator for Systemwide Cybersecurity Incidents, where she facilitates coordination across the Blue System and BCBSA’s executive leadership during large-scale cybersecurity and/or privacy events.
Sanders joined BCBSA in 2012 after spending a decade as a complex commercial litigator in Washington, D.C. Prior to serving in her current role, Sanders was BCBSA’s Chief Privacy Official and Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and Regulatory activities. Throughout her career, Sanders has partnered with executive leadership and business partners to provide strategic legal counsel across a broad range of subject matters.
Sanders is a 2020 graduate of the Association of Corporate Counsel National Capital Region Leadership Academy and a recipient of the BCBSA President’s Award. She is frequently called upon to present to professional associations and conferences. Sanders earned her Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Miami.
When she is not working, Sanders enjoys spending time at home with her husband and two children.
