The Faces of Fearless Award celebrates people like you – people who are overcoming challenges every day to live healthier lives. So earlier this year we asked you to tell us how you took on your biggest challenge, and how Blue Cross Blue Shield helped you along the way. Read the stories of this year’s winners. Marcie and Chase Jones In November 2016, Marcie Jones received a shocking call. Her son, Chase, had been diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. Chemotherapy began that night. Managing Chase’s road to remission became a full-time job for Marcie and her husband. But Chase’s member advocate, Kara Carpenter, and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota team lifted a weight off their shoulders. Kara followed Chase’s treatment closely, visited him in the hospital, and helped the Joneses through their paperwork – allowing them to keep their focus where it needed to be, on Chase’s recovery. Tough and resilient, today Chase is in remission. He’s a true face of fearless. Bob McIntosh Bob McIntosh spent 34 years as a football coach, a strength coach and a health teacher – building a legacy of helping others. In 2018 he was diagnosed with stage 4 bladder cancer. Over the next six months, Bob underwent a series of chemotherapy treatments and procedures. Navigating the treatments and claims was challenging, but Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield was by his side the entire time. Bob’s case manager, Samantha Costello, collaborated with his oncology team to ensure he had what he needed. She visited him in the hospital and at home, and was always there to listen when Bob and his wife needed to share. Bob said that he could not have imagined going through this journey without Samantha’s support. He shared his story in appreciation of Samantha – for her hard work, and her big heart.
