Gregg R. Laiben, M.D., serves as the principal physician executive and is a member of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City (Blue KC) Leadership Team. As medical director, Labien collaborates with key executives and stakeholders on physician initiatives to expand value-based care models and achieve the mission to provide affordable access to healthcare and improve the health and wellness of members.
Laiben maintained an active clinical practice in internal medicine in the Kansas City area for 12 years. Prior to taking his position at Blue KC in 2008, Laiben was the medical director for Primaris, the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for the State of Missouri. He also served as medical director for Missouri’s Medicaid Agency and chaired the 2003 Missouri Governor’s Commission on Patient Safety, which led to the creation of the Missouri Center for Patient Safety. Laiben holds a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Medicine and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosphy from University of Missouri Kansas City.
