Subtitle Members of Anthem’s Medicare Advantage plans can participate in SilverSneakers health programs at no cost as part of plan benefits CINCINNATI -- Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio (Anthem) will continue offering access to SilverSneakers®, as one of the many benefits included in its 2018 Medicare Advantage plans. This is part of Anthem’s ongoing commitment to the health and well-being of its current members and those Anthem hopes to have the privilege of serving in the future. SilverSneakers – offered by Tivity Health – is a fitness program tailored to older adults and is celebrating 25 years of partnering with consumers to help them achieve better health. Anthem’s members have expressed time and again that their involvement in SilverSneakers has made a significant impact on their health and well-being. “I had a stroke about five years ago, which was a significant wake up call for me, and my doctor told me I had to change how I live my life,” said Larry Farrier, an Anthem member and active SilverSneakers participant from Mentor, OH. “Since that stroke, I’ve made SilverSneakers a normal part of my routine. Having access to the fitness program through my Medicare Advantage plan has really put me back on the right path. My advice is to look for opportunities that help you get out there and be more active. Don’t wait for a stroke, like I did, to point you in the right direction.” SilverSneakers by Tivity Health teams up with healthcare stakeholders, such as Anthem, to help millions of baby boomers and beyond meet their personal goals and overcome health stereotypes. The program helps older adults take greater control of their health by engaging participants in more frequent exercise, strength training, aerobics, and flexibility training through a variety of venues and programming. “Larry is an example of why Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Ohio offers access to SilverSneakers and other benefits to improve health; we want to give our members solutions to the health care challenges they face every day,” said David McNichols, President of Anthem’s Medicare Central region. “We know many consumers are doing their research right now on Medicare Advantage plans for 2018.
