CHICAGO 08.31.17 - Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) and its member licensees are taking a number of steps to help people in Texas who are affected by Hurricane Harvey.
BlueCross BlueShield of Texas (BCBSTX) has expanded access to their help line to provide personal assistance and support for all residents in affected areas. Displaced patients can obtain clinical summaries that explain their medical history to doctors they have not visited before. Medical professionals also may obtain patient medical histories through BCBSTX’s provider portal.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield companies and their employees across the country have donated nearly $400,000 to local and national relief efforts at the time of this posting. BCBSA has activated an internal website that will enable employees to request matching funds for their donations to the American Red Cross.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the hurricane and we will remain steadfast during their time of need,” said Scott Serota, chief executive officer for BCBSA. “BCBS companies will continue to provide members with security and stability in affected regions as we have for nearly 90 years.”
