CHICAGO - Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) and its member licensees are taking a number of steps to help people who are affected by hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS) companies operating in affected areas are providing personal assistance and support for residents in by temporarily lifting prescription refill restrictions for customers, and waiving prior authorization requirements for acute medical care and other health services.
BCBS companies and their employees across the country have donated nearly $4 million* to local and national relief efforts as of press time. BCBSA has activated an internal website that will enable employees to request matching funds for their donations to the American Red Cross.
“Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the hurricanes and we will remain steadfast during their time of need,” said Scott Serota, chief executive officer for BCBSA. “BCBS companies will continue to provide members with security and stability in impacted regions as we have for nearly 90 years.”
